Riley is a 19.5 inch black brindle and white female. Whelped April 19, 2007 by Cdn Ch Avalonia Wotta Jesta out of Cdn Ch Avalonia Barbados, Riley has curves in all the right places, with an excellent head piece and movement.
Riley began her show career at 6 months of age when she was awarded WB and BPIB and her first point towards her Canadian Championship. At that time, Riley decided that the show ring was not her favorite place to be - it was much more fun to stay at home and keep the property free of squirrels and rabbits and then curl up in her favorite chair and sleep. We kept her home to mature and then brought our reluctant show girl back to the show ring for limited showing in 2008. Reluctant or not, Riley as always, trying to please me, picked up 5 more points to bring her total to 6 with a couple of BOB wins along the way. While staying at home for the winter months, in preparation for going back to the show ring in the spring of 2009, Riley decided that a litter of puppies by her best friend, Cdn Ch Avalonia Bondi at Touchstone would probably be a good way to avoid the show ring. Shhhhh - don't tell Riley, but those babies are only going to delay her return to the show ring in search of her Canadian championship. |

On March 4, Riley whelped 8 beautiful, healthy puppies. I guess her thought was if a small litter would help keep her out of the show ring - a large litter would certainly do it. We retained a fawn brindle male out of the 'Surprise' litter and Touchstone Surprise Surprise will make his appearance in the showring in September/09.
As I promised (threatened) Riley that puppies would not keep her out of the show ring, she was entered at the Ottawa shows in May and just to shock me again (think 8 puppies), Ms Riley 'almost' seemed to enjoy the show. So much so, that she was WB and BOS both Friday and Saturday, under judges Edgar Bajona and Donald Duncan respectively, and is now sitting at 8 points towards her Cdn Ch. I have again made Riley a promise - after she finishes her championship she can just sit back and watch her son, 'Ryker' in the show ring. |

Our battle of the wills has come to an end! Riley is now CDN CH AVALONIA TRIXIE SMITH. She finished the requirements for her championship at Valley Kennel Club on July 20, 2009. Thank you to the judges who recognized the quality in this very reluctant showgirl. Riley will now stay home and do what she loves best. We do plan on breeding Riley to Cdn Ch Touchstone Rhythm N'Blues in the near future. |
