Below are a couple of ringside candid shots taken by Lanny Morry (Avalonia Whippets) of Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue, moving her way to Best of Breed at the CASA Specialty Show, and of Cdn Ch Avalonia Blueberry Lemonade and her son Cdn Ch Touchstone Rhythm N'Blues in the Brace Class. This was their first time being shown as a Brace (and my first time showing a Brace).

Touchstone Whippets only attended the Kingston and District Kennel Club shows in June, but with some very pleasing results.
Saturday under judge Joan Beech, Touchstone Surprise Surprise was Winners Dog, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex and Best Bred By Exhibitor to bring him closer to his Canadian title. Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue was Best of Breed and then 'wowed' the judge right to a Group 1st. Sunday under judge Bud Haverstock, DuMond Gosling's started the trek to his Canadian championship from the Junior Puppy classes as he went Winners Dog, Best of Opposite Sex and Best Puppy In Breed. Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue was Best of Breed and then showed her way right to Group 1st. This was Gracie's 3rd Group 1st and 7th Group placing out of 8 shows this year. We are so proud of this little, 14 month old baby and each time that we go in the ring, we see her confidence in herself building. |

May 2010
The 'kids' then moved on to Ottawa Kennel Club shows. We had planned to show BPIS Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue, Touchstone Surprise Surprise (pts) and DuMond Gosling's, but life being what it is, DuMond Gosling's, 'Morgan' suffered an injury (he broke his tail, and is in a splint) a day before the show and could not be shown. We did enter him in the Sanction Match and he did us and himself proud. He was put up to Group 1st and Best Puppy In Group (injury or no). The judge gave a written critique of her placements and Morgan's was as follows - General Appearance: Very good type; Head and Expression: very good head, exellent ear set; Body: excellent top line; Forequarters: excellent; Hindquarters: excellent; Movement: excellent; Down and Back: excellent; Lateral: could have more drive (but is understandably protecting his tail). Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue was BOB and Hound Group 4th under judge Joy-Lynne Huntley. At the Capital Area Sighthound Association Booster show, Gracie was BOB and then moved on to Hound Group 2nd under judge Edgar Bajona, and the next day was BOB under judge Michael Bouchard. These wins moved Gracie, BPIS Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue into #3 Whippet in Canada (June) as per the unofficial results of Canuck Dogs. |

The youngsters of Touchstone attended the Arnprior Kennel Club shows to practice up for the summer show season. What a beginning it was!
DuMond Gosling's, 'Morgan' was entered the first day only to introduce him to the show scene. Under judge Gutenberg Soares, he was Best Puppy In Breed and he also acquired many favorable compliments, both from the judge and ringside viewers. Judge Soares also placed Touchstone Rhythm N'Blues, 'Tye', Winners Dog and Best of Opposite Sex. 'Gracie', Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash of Blue, was Best of Breed. Gracie then went into Group judging and thrilled us as she was chosen Hound Group 1st. Thank you judge Soares. The next two days, under judges William Bryne and Sharon Derrick (respectively) Tye was Winners Dog and Best of Opposite Sex to finish the requirements for his Canadian Championship, becoming the first champion of the year for Touchstone Whippets and the third champion for our foundation bitch, Cdn Ch Avalonia Blueberry Lemonade and the second for his sire, Cdn Ch Avalonia Trick or Treat. These wins alone made the weekend special, but to make it even more special, Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue, showed us and others, that the little ones can and will make their mark. Judges William Bryne and Sharon Derrick placed 'Gracie' Best of Breed and then in group judging both also placed her Hound Group 3rd. Thank you to judges and ringside viewers for all the favorable comments on our 'kids'. Thank you also to Carol Froats, Lori and Dick. |

March 2010
No show news to report yet, but it is (at last) starting to look like spring, in other words - mud, mud, mud! Doesn't bother the whippets at all, as a matter of fact they seem to enjoy it, judging by the looks of them when they come in. We are planning some shows for the youngsters, Touchstone Surprise Surprise (pts) and Touchstone Rhythm N'Blues (pts) for this spring and summer and also hope to soon have news of an impending litter! It's also looking like there will be a new addition to Touchstone later this month - we'll keep you posted. |

March 20 - the first day of spring - a time of new growth and hope, and this day saw Touchstone Whippets growing also as we welcomed our newest family member (and colour) to our household - DuMond Gosling's - an absolutely lovely black and white male, whelped November 4, 2009, sired by DuMond Ernest Hemingway(Am/Cdn pts) out of DuMond Dancing Queen. We would like to thank Jalynn Almond (DuMond Whippets, Maryland, USA) for entrusting us with this personable young man. Look for him in the show ring this summer and watch for his page to be added soon.

February 2010
Cold, cold, cold, but it is February and therefore getting closer to spring. The withdrawals are getting stronger so we are starting to plan for some shows for the youngsters, and that gives us something to look forward to besides cold and snow. And to give us something else to look forward to - possibly, a new addition to Touchstone! |

January 2010
Touchstone Whippets wishes everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
The whippets love playing in all the snow we are getting, but they are not too fond of -30 degree weather, so they spend a lot of time bird watching and chasing the 'bunny' (Trouble, the siamese cat) up and down the halls, the rest of their time is spent curled under blankets, dreaming of sun and warm weather. Me, I agree with the whippets about the weather, but Kevin is loving it and spending his spare time snowmobiling. |
