Touchstone Whippets

RBIS BPIS Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash of Blue

Gracie, (aka Bug), a white and blue brindle,  is a very promising young girl who we have great hopes for.  Whelped March 21/09 by the outstanding Cdn Ch Avalonia Trick or Treat out of the beautiful Cdn Ch Avalonia Blueberry Lemonade, she is very tightly linebred on the world famous Nevedith double 'J' litter. Gracie has a beautiful whippet outline with movement that follows the form.  To top it off, she has her mother's "look at me" attitude.

Gracie went along with us to the Kars show in July and had a hard time deciding which was more fun - camping and being totally spoiled by everyone she met or showing her 'stuff' at the Sanction Match.  Just to show Ryker that girls can do it too - she was Best Female, Best of Breed and Hound Group 2.  We are getting many favourable comments on our pretty, petite Gracie - she is already being noticed (and we are already making plans for her future).

We decided to enter Gracie in the Nipissing Kennel Club (Oct /09) shows (figured I had to get brave enough to start her sometime, might as well be now and we did want to show off that beautiful movement).  At her very first show, at just over 6 months of age, Gracie decided that she could keep up to her sister, Cdn Ch Touchstone A Summer Breeze - and under judge Carmen Haller, was chosen Winners Bitch, Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed, for her first point.  I think it was at this point, that Gracie decided that maybe she could outdo her sister and as she went into the Group judging, I saw a twinkle in her eye.  She showed off her excellent movement and temperament and was chosen Group 2nd and Best Puppy In Group.  Thank you to judge Carmen Haller for this thrill with this promising puppy and for your lovely comments about her quality.

Because Gracie had so much fun at her first show, we entered her at Belleville (Oct /09).  With a twinkle in her eye, she decided to show us how MUCH fun she could have.  Judge Patricia Nemirovsky saw the quality through the puppy games and awarded Gracie Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed (over a Special).  The next day, judge Michael Gelinas awarded her Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best Puppy in Breed.  Judge Thomas Touzel took our Gracie to Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed (over Specials) to finish her Canadian Championship at only 7 months 4 days after only 2 weekends of shows.  What a thrill!  But in group judging, judge Thomas Touzel added to that thrill by awarding our petite Gracie, Hound Group 3rd and Best Puppy In Group.  Our spunky, loveable, petite Gracie decided at this point that she is going to follow in the pawprints of housemate and half sister, Cdn Ch Touchstone A Summer Breeze, and see if she can stop my heart.  She almost succeeded!  Each time that Gracie has gone into the ring we could see her confidence in herself building and as she went into the ring for Best Puppy In Show judging she appeared to be of the attitude that she was the best. On this day, judge Thomas Touzel thought so also, and pointed to Gracie for Best Puppy In Show.  This, is a thrill that will NEVER be topped.  Thank you Thomas Touzel for bestowing this honour on Touchstone A Splash Of Blue.

We would like to thank the judges who awarded Gracie points (and Group placements and Best Puppy In Group), in particular Carmen Haller, Patricia Nemirovsky and Thomas Touzel who had so many favourable comments about the quality of this petite, young girl.  This little girl is attracting attention (actually she demands it) from judges, exhibitors and ringside viewers - we can hardly wait until she is mature.  Watch for her!

Gracie is the second Champion for her dam, Cdn Ch Avalonia Blueberry Lemonade and the first for her sire, Cdn Ch Avalonia Trick or Treat.

Gracie started the 2010 show season at the Champlain Dog Club in April.  Thanks to judges Bob Rowbotham and Peggy Otero who awarded her Best of Breed.  We then moved on to the Arnprior Canine Association shows in May.  At 13 months of age, Gracie showed us that she is maturing with all the promise she showed as a baby - she was Best of Breed all three days, but to make the weekend unforgettable was; Hound Group 1st under judge Gutenberg Soares, Hound Group 3rd under judge William Byrne and Hound Group 3rd under judge Sharon Derrick.  Thank you judges for these group placements and for your wonderful comments about our lovely BPIS Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue.

Gracie then moved on to the Ottawa Kennel Club shows in late May, where she continued on.  On Friday, under judge Joy-Lynne Huntley, Gracie was BOB and Hound Group 4th.  On Saturday, under judge Edgar Bajona at the Capital Area Sighthound Association booster show, Gracie was BOB and then on to Hound Group 2nd.  Sunday under judge Michael Bouchard, she was BOB.  These wins have moved BPIS Cdn Ch Touchstone A Splash Of Blue to #3 Whippet in Canada as per the unofficial results of Canuck Dogs.

In June, Gracie attended the Kingston and District Kennel Club shows with what we consider some exceptional results.  On Fri under judge Melvin Beech she was Best of Breed, on Sat under judge Joan Beech, Gracie was Best of Breed and Group 1st. She then repeated this win on Sun with Best of Breed and Group 1st under judge Bud Haverstock.

'Bug' at only 14 months of age, has had a fantastic start to the 2010 show season with limited showing - three Group 1st, one Group 2nd, two Group 3rd and one Group 4. She is still listed as Number 3 Whippet in Canada for June as per the unofficial results of Canuck Dogs.

Gracie moved on to Kars for the Capital Area Sighthound Specialty, but first on Saturday to start the weekend won Best In All-Breed Puppy Sweepstakes.  At the CASA specialty show in a strong whippet entry, Gracie was chosen Best Of Breed.  Thanks to Letitia Bett for this honour and for all your wonderful comments about Touchstone Whippets.
